Georgetown Homes and Condos

Old southern custom meets modern brilliance in this small city. Georgetown is a waterfront town decorated in low country plantation homes, luxury antebellum mansions, classic southern estates, and modern beach architecture. Real estate prices range from $100,000 to $10 million for historic property. Georgetown has a big personality which initially attracts visitors. The authentic coastal charm and uniquely modern southern style persuades visitors to become residents. A walk through the historic downtown will prove this unique combination. The tranquil beaches, waterways, and marshes, fascinating marine wildlife, world-class golfing, historic sites, fine dining, shops and activities make Georgetown such a treasure.

Georgetown Nature

The beautiful coast line of Georgetown is forever protected from development. More than 18,000 acres of Hobcaw Barony was generously donated by the Baruch family to provide protection around North Inlet and Winyah Bay for education and research purposes. In addition, 20,000 acres including North Island, South Island, and a portion of Cat Island are home to wildlife refuges.

Georgetown Lifestyle

In less than an hour from the heart of Myrtle Beach, you can experience the historic seaport of Georgetown, South Carolina. Affectionately known as ”Little Charleston,” Georgetown offers a beautiful waterfront, numerous historical attractions, and boutique shopping that rivals the shopping and historical mecca of Charleston, yet with a small town allure. The people of Georgetown spend their days golfing, fishing, crabbing, swimming, surfing, and boating. Local life revolves around the salt marsh, rivers, and ocean. Residents enjoy numerous local dining options, a low cost of living, and a slower paced lifestyle with a convenient commute to both Charleston, SC and the Grand Strand. While Georgetown works hard to preserve its heritage and tourist attractions that include Brookgreen Gardens and over 50 antebellum mansions, Georgetown continues to evolve as a viable community for residential living with plans for future economic growth.

Georgetown History

Looking around Georgetown at the extraordinary buildings and tall, strong Live Oak trees lining the streets, it's easy to tell that this city has a rich history. Some historians say Georgetown became the first U.S. settlement when Europeans arrived in 1526. The colony was short-lived in large part because of fever epidemic and slave revolts. However, it was reestablished in 1729 as an area that produced indigo and rice, cash crops that were overshadowed by lumber production following the U.S. Civil War.

Georgetown also served as a seaport for supply shipments to bolster the American troops during the Revolutionary War. Over the years, several notable dignitaries have visited the historic city, including several U.S. presidents. Today, the city's Historic District, site of the original 1729 street grid, is home to more than 50 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Georgetown Real Estate Market

There are certainly many stunning homes in historic Georgetown. Whether it's a waterfront property you seek, or a nationally-recognized historic home surrounded by sprawling live oaks, Georgetown real estate can provide several options.

The Georgetown housing market has not grown at nearly the same pace as the Myrtle Beach real estate market. However, plenty of opportunities still exist to purchase Georgetown condos, homes, waterfront properties, and historic southern plantations. Georgetown real estate has prices ranging from $100,000 to $10 million for a historic southern plantation.

You won't see very many high-rise Georgetown condos. In keeping with the historic and small-town nature of the city, Georgetown condos are more apt to be two-story townhome style, or unique upper-level condos in specialty shopping areas with a riverfront view. Several Georgetown condos feature Spanish and German architectural influences, as well.

Georgetown Community Amenities

The historic seaport of Georgetown is less than an hour from Myrtle Beach. Affectionately known as ”Little Charleston,” Georgetown offers a beautiful waterfront, numerous historical attractions, and boutique shopping that rivals the shopping and historical mecca of Charleston, yet with a small town allure. Activities in and around the Georgetown area include golfing, sailing charters, eco-tours, deep-sea fishing and, of course, the gorgeous beaches the southeast coast is known for. Residents enjoy numerous local dining options, a low cost of living, and a slower-paced lifestyle with a convenient commute to both Charleston, SC and the Grand Strand.

While Georgetown works hard to preserve its heritage and tourist attractions that include Brookgreen Gardens and over 50 antebellum mansions, Georgetown continues to evolve as a viable community for residential living with plans for future economic growth.

This small, friendly community is a unique place to settle, with its bustling riverfront where specialty shops and historic places abound. Georgetown homes are quaint, laid-back and southern by nature, but located mere miles from the excitement of tourist attractions such as beaches and amusement parks.
